We're thrilled to announce our next chapbook authors in a few days, but first we want to introduce our esteemed curator, Owen Egerton. If you're in the Austin literary scene, it's probably self-evident why we reached out to him. Owen has been voted Best Local Author by the Austin Chronicle seven times, and that's not all.
He has three books—Everyone Says That at the End of the World, How Best to Avoid Dying, and The Book of Harold, the Illegitimate Son of God. The latter has been optioned by Warner Brothers Television. He has a fourth book, This Word Now, due out soon with his doing-life-person (wife)(and fellow writer), Jodi Egerton.
In addition to being an author, he is a screenwriter, filmmaker, and performer. As a screenwriter Owen has worked for Fox, Warner Brothers, and Disney, writing scripts for stars like Owen Wilson and Amy Poehler. Last year, his feature film, Follow, had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest and opens in theaters in September. Owen is also one of the talents behind the award-winning Master Pancake Theater at Alamo Drafthouse. He has been honored as one of Austin's best comic performers.
Impressive as Owen's own accomplishments are, we are more drawn to his boundless support of other authors. With unrelenting generosity and energy, he has gone above and beyond to promote authors at various levels of their careers, as well as supporting groups within the local literary scene. He offers writing courses both on his own and in coordination with the Writers League of Texas. He runs One Page Salon—a monthly event in which writers, musicians, and assorted performers share "a page" of their current work in progress. He has a monthly podcast, The Write Up produced by KUT, in which he talks to authors about their lives and careers. His most recent effort in supporting a local literary group, new on the scene, was by contributing a piece from an upcoming novel in the new art and literature journal, Into Quarterly.
For all these reasons, we are happy to share his group of authors and look forward to putting their work out into the world. Stay tuned for author announcements.
